The BRICKS 4 KIDZ® model was founded by Michelle Cote in St. Augustine, Florida. Michelle started an after-school Spanish class (outside the school system). In the spring of 2008 while filling out the forms to become a “School Board Vendor,” teaching Spanish at the school the following school year, Michelle noticed a category on the form for “creative science.” Her son loves to play with LEGO® bricks, and she thought to herself, “Maybe I could lead a creative science LEGO® class too”. Michelle was awarded the bid for both the after-school Spanish and the creative science LEGO® class. That summer Michelle advertised a Spanish camp and a LEGO® camp. She had three children sign up for the Spanish camp, but 35 children signed up for the LEGO® camp!
After seeing the excitement over the LEGO® bricks, Michelle decided to go with the LEGO® after-school class – and it took off. Michelle found herself at three different primary schools with an average of 20 students in each class every week. Now Michelle does over 20 after-school classes a week, plus school incursions, programs during the school holidays and bunches of birthday parties every weekend!
Today BRICKS 4 KIDZ® has over 600 locations in 35 countries.
Who is the team in the Baldivis?
Beck started her working career in retail before going off to join the Royal Australian Navy. After various postings and meeting her husband she left to focus on married life and a career in community work. Beck studied certificate III in community and disability work whilst working as a volunteer for students at risk, this led her to commence studies in Education. In 2006 she started her Bachelor of Education through Murdoch University. Whilst completing her degree she was full time mum to two beautiful children.
Teaching is the profession Beck has chosen to work in, facilitating a child’s learning and providing an environment in which they can shine, explore, be creative and grow is her absolute passion. She believes that learning should be fun and exciting, this philosophy and her love for lego makes this new enterprise a perfect match for Beck’s passion and skills.
Beck’s Working With Children Check number is 1075979.
Josh also started his working career in the Royal Australian Navy. After sailing the seven seas, he retrained himself in aged care and disability work completing a Certificate IV in service coordination. He focused on working with children and young adults with disabilities. Feeling the need for a change and a desire to give back to the community he joined the Police Force, working out of Fremantle until he was drawn back to working with people with disabilities at the Office of the Public Advocate, where he completed a Diploma of Management.
Josh has always had a childlike love and enthusiasm for Lego and when the opportunity to work with something he loves arrived, he thought EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!!!
With Beck, he has taken on the first franchise for BRICKS 4 KIDZ® in Western Austrlia and is now working to establish and grow the business in Baldivis and the surrounding suburbs.
