Frequently Asked Questions about our Holiday Workshops and Activities

Will the whole session be LEGO? Im not sure my child can concentrate that long.

We hold breaks during the day and have heaps of games and activities ready to suit kids of all ages.  Depending on the venue we might go out into the adjacent playground or up to the gymnasium to play soccer, cricket or handball (just to name a few!!!) with our enthusiastic instructors! We usually have three different games/activities running at once during the breaks so there is something for all kids to join in with and have fun!

What does a day at BRICKS 4 KIDZ look like?

During the session, kids are broken up into different groups and rotate between a series of stations.  These are structured with a particular time allocated at each one.  These stations all have different LEGO® activities on them – it could be a 3D model build, mosaic build or a technic build that might include a battery and motor.  There is an instructor at all these stations.

We also have time for free play LEGO® with our mountains of LEGO®, where kids can decide what they would like to build and use their imagination!

We incorporate a morning tea break, lunch break and afternoon tea break into our days.  We all sit down together to eat and then play with some of the great sports equipment we have.

Are most of the participants boys?

No, we have lots of girls attend our workshops – LEGO® is definitely for girls too!

My child doesn't know anyone - will they still have fun?

Yes definitely!  Sometimes kids arrive at our workshops with their siblings or friends and we make sure they are grouped together for the day.  But, lots of kids don’t know anyone when they first arrive and after working together to build fantastic creations and playing games together in the break times, form really great friendships.

We have had some parents swap phone numbers at the end of our sessions and then enrol in a future workshop together as a firm friendship has been made!

Are most of the participants older children? I'm thinking of sending my 5 year old but she needs lots of support and doesn't have great dexterity with small LEGO yet. She's quite intimidated by big boys!

We have a range of ages attending our workshops from age 5 – 12.

We group the kids at the beginning of the day according to age, ability and to keep siblings and friends together!

We have a ratio of eight kids to one instructor so there is always someone there to support every child and make sure they achieve.  Most of our models have at least two levels of difficulty and the activities are also very open-ended, so we really do cater for all ages.

Does the program qualify for child care rebate?

We are not able to offer a child care rebate.  Many of our staff are university education students, so while they do not have child care qualifications, they have a great knowledge and skill with working with children and a real love!  They are more equipped to work and interact with primary-aged children.  We also like to have a ratio no larger than eight kids to each instructor, which allows the day to be a really fun day for all involved.

Do I stay at the workshop with my child?

No parents do not stay at the workshop.  If you have to go to work you can rest assured that your child will have a great day otherwise if you don’t then relax and enjoy your day and look forward to picking your child up and hearing all about the fun they have had.

Do I provide food and drinks for my child?

Yes!  We ask parents to provide a nut-free morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea snack (depending on how long they are staying for).  We remind all kids at the start of the day to never share their food.

Please also pack a water bottle for your child – we do however have tap water available.

What clothing is suitable?

We ask that you provide hats all year round for the children to go outside. Please also pack a jumper and/or jacket.

Children need to wear covered shoes, for example sneakers, as we play outside at break time.

What if a child cannot make a workshop?

If you child is visibly sick or carrying a high temperature on the day of the workshop, please keep your child at home!  We will make up the workshop at the next opportunity.

How old does my child need to be to attend a workshop?

Children are welcome at our workshops from the age of 5.

What happens after payment is made to you?

Once payment had been made your child’s enrolment is confirmed.  You will receive an email closer to the workshop date regarding what your child needs to bring on the day and other important information relevant to the day.

What do other parents say about our workshops?

Parents love our workshops!  They all know that their children are in the safe care of BRICKS 4 KIDZ® instructors, all who have working with children checks and at least one who has a first aid certificate.  They have all been trained with special safety policies in place at all our workshops.

Parents also like to know that their child will have a super fun day!  They will be given different LEGO® activities which they don’t have at home and will be taught different building techniques.  They will be given time to use their imagination and they will make lots of friends!
